Giving young people a boost with the Kickstart Programme

We’re creating 22 new roles across Spirit to help unemployed, young people and increase their chance of securing long-term employment.

As part of the government’s Kickstart Programme, we’re providing 22 opportunities for young people across Leicester for six months. During the placement period, they will gain valuable new skills to prepare them for their future.

What is the Kickstart Programme?

The Kickstart Programme is a government-subsidised scheme that aims to help young people who are at risk of long-term unemployment to get back into work. Jobs from the Kickstart scheme are open to 16 to 24-year-olds who are claiming Universal Credit.

Unemployment rates are rising – reaching the highest level in more than four years. It’s the right time to help these young people, when they need it most, at the start of their careers.

Our Kickstarters will have access to training, coaching and pastoral support to secure long-term employment after their time at Spirit. These personal development opportunities will help them to:

  1. build their experience and skills in the workplace
  2. boost their confidence
  3. increase their chances of securing employment

A chance to make a difference

Kerry Taylor-Kenyon, People Director at Spirit, said:

We’re excited to be part of the Kickstart Programme, and hope to find a variety of people who fit into Spirit’s positive culture, who wish to progress further and make a difference, and as a business, we will do whatever we can to support this. This is a great opportunity for us as a growing organisation to give something back to those in the community who need it most, particularly through these challenging times.”

Chris Barker, CEO at Spirit, concludes:

“Our business is dedicated to investing in the next generation. We realise the importance of supporting job creation and are committed to providing exciting opportunities for unemployed people. Everybody is welcome. We want to create a diverse pipeline of future talent within our workforce and increase their chances of future success, preparing them for the world of work.”

If you are between 16 and 24 years old and out of work and interested in taking part in the Kickstart Programme, please visit your local Jobcentre for more information.
