On 1st October, Leicester-based Spirit Healthcare went live with the new services, marking the start of its initial five-year APMS contracts.
A core tenet of the service model will be to empower patients to self-manage and access primary care in a way that is convenient for them, providing online access to request appointments and seek advice. Spirit Healthcare aims to make best use of innovative technology to provide immediate access to care and best manage patients diagnosed with LTCs.
Longer-term, the intention is to provide more joined up primary care, community nursing and specialist nursing services around the needs of patients – in the practices, in homes and in the wider community.
Tim Loveridge, Managing Director Clinical Services, Spirit Healthcare said: “We are delighted to be providing these GP services as of 1st October 2017. We are working with our NHS partner, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, to make sure the patients at the two practices at Rushey Mead Health Centre (which have come together as one), Beaumont Leys Health Centre and Asquith Surgery get the very best care.”
He added, “Over the past months we have been working with the CCG, regulators, surgery staff, and other local stakeholders, including patient participation groups, to ensure as smooth a transition as possible from the previous providers. Our focus now is on developing these practices with our patients and with our staff. As an organisation, we are committed to delivering services of the highest standard and make the best use of NHS resources to help make the nation happier and healthier.”
Jude Smith, head of nursing at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, said: “It is an opportunity to look at different ways of working to remove artificial barriers that sit between organisations, and to explore how we can further refine integrated models of working.”
